What is Migrant Coffee known for?
Migrant Coffee is known for stuffing New York bagels with Filipino, Thai and Island fillings in a West Footscray courtyard that 3012 uses as a morning living room. You walk Barkly before lunch. Harley and Rose at 572 is a dark pizza shop until 5. Shop 3 at 576 is the glass that is actually working: steam, Supreme in the machine, a door that leads out back to a fenced yard. You sit. You eat a bagel that is too full. That is the point.
Melodee Malazarte and Stacey Earsman opened it in October 2019. Love Your West says they met at a New York breakdancing competition in their early twenties, came home as flatmates, and named the shop for their mothers, not for a form. The house story page still prints their years as 2019 to 2025, then hands the counter to Andrew and Brenda Ly: west-raised, Chinese Vietnamese, Brenda from this suburb, a baby on the way when they wrote the next-chapter copy. Good Food, 7 October 2024, is why this directory still prints the door. Jason South photographed the Bok Bok Manok and a sweet-treat bagel with coconut jam. The listing tells you to take Coffee Supreme, Thai iced tea, or a beer in the open air out the back. Time Out's West Footscray mini guide, 4 September 2020, already had Supreme, stuffed bagels, and packs. That card is lockdown-old. The mobile on it is not the shop.
Mamma Knows West, Siobhan Relf, 19 June 2021, is the room note: a fenced backyard, a blackboard for kids, umbrellas, heaters, a pooch on the pavers, merch and beans on a side shelf. English and Filipino both still live on the story page, with Thai and Maori greetings under the founders' names. You came for a bagel. You stayed because the yard felt like someone's house.
What should you order at Migrant Coffee?
Order a stuffed bagel if that is why you walked, Coffee Supreme if the cup is the job, and ask what the 2026 board is actually doing. The house menu page is a photograph now. A category on an old review is not a promise the pass still has it.
You want the Bok Bok Manok if chicken salad on a bagel sounds like a joke until you bite it. Broadsheet writes shredded breast, onion, carrot, mustard, pickles, tangy mayo, cheddar. Manok is chicken. Good Food's later plate is smoked chicken, chilli oil, Kewpie, cheddar. Same hunger, different week. Ask which chicken is on.
Pastrami Mami if you wanted fat cut with atsara, the pickled green papaya. Love Your West called it Pastrami Mama. That is a typo. Broadsheet and the house memory both say Mami: Swiss, cream cheese, the pickle. Delivery apps have printed seeded mustard on that stack. Treat a DoorDash till as a rumour. Avocado with coconut crumb and house pesto if you wanted green. The sweet-treat bagel with coconut jam if you wanted dessert at 9am and South's photograph still looks like you. A schmear only if coconut jam, vegan cashew cream, or honey-raisin-walnut cream cheese is enough bread.
Mini bagels for kids if salted coconut jam still sits on that list. Courtyard drinks if the house is pouring: mimosa, Bloody Mary, Thai iced tea, a beer. Picnic and catering packs are a house product. The menu page says pre-order on the bagel hotline, (03) 7012 8809. Do not invent satay or sweet-and-sour as live specials because a handover note hoped they would arrive. Time Out raved about vegan sourdough doughnuts in 2020. Ask the pass. If you wanted a Leeds laptop garden, that is Rudimentary. If you wanted Harley pizza, come back after 5 and check they are not on a Sunday.

Mamma Knows still prints Thursday to Sunday 8am-2pm and skips the weekday mornings the house now opens. Time Out still prints 0459 831 203 and free weekend delivery between 8am and noon. Broadsheet's hours widget said Sunday 8am-2pm when it received a clock on 27 October 2025. Delivery apps have printed 1:45pm closes. The house glass is 2pm, Tuesday 1pm, Wednesday dark. Do not Uber a Wednesday bagel.
Walk-in. Cards are normal. Weekend courtyard tables fill because this stretch of 3012 treats the yard as the living room. You will not get a 3pm sitting. The kitchen is already wiping down. Harley and Rose is closed Sunday and Monday. A Sunday bagel here from 8am still works. A Sunday pizza next door does not. West Footscray Wines at 578 is closed Sunday to Tuesday, so a Sunday wine-and-bagel plan dies on one side of you.
How do you get to Migrant Coffee in West Footscray?
Get off at West Footscray station, then walk Barkly to shop 3 at 576. You do not need Footscray station unless you wanted a long walk past the market, the plaza, and every wrong bagel pin. Harley and Rose is 572, dark until dinner. West Footscray Wines is 578, the night bottle shop. Busog at 553 is sisig after noon, closed Monday. This pin is the daylight door between them.
Street parking on Barkly is short. Whitten Oval match days eat it. Irving deck is the market car park in the other postcode. You came for a bagel, not a trolley. Eat in the yard.
This is a morning and lunch door. At night the block belongs to Harley and the wine bar. Wednesday this glass is dark either way. Stay on lit Barkly back to the station. Residential streets go quiet after 2pm.
