What people get wrong

Shop 1/553 Barkly, 3012. City Lane omits Tuesday. Instagram prints Monday 5pm-9pm. Lutong Pinoy is the market stall. Mami Ko is Nicholson. We last walked this on 2026-09-20. Hours move with the week. Checking the shopfront keeps the night easy.

What is Busog known for?

Busog is known as West Footscray's sit-down Filipino room, Shop 1 at 553 Barkly, the table this strip uses when it wants sisig after the market hall has already locked.

You get off at West Footscray, not Footscray, and you walk Barkly until the numbers hit 553. Thai Angels is 549, closed Monday and Tuesday. Aangan at 559 is tandoor. Harley and Rose is further west, a wood oven and a bottle-o. This door is Filipino. The fascia is small. The job is rice, a sizzle, and leaving heavier than you arrived.

The City Lane, 8 March 2025, found Myla Valdejueza and her children on the floor and in the kitchen, a family room that opened late 2024. Instagram @busog_au is the house site they point you to. Phone 0432 175 128. Email busogau@gmail.com if you needed a booking in writing. No brochure domain we trust. PinoyPages prints the same clock as the Instagram bio, owner-verified.

Walk in. It is a dining room, not a food-court counter. Recurring notes call it a four-to-seven-person sitting: OPM on the playlist, a playful room that still does the work of a family table. Filipino and English both work. Regulars order sisig without translating. First-timers should still ask how hot, and whether the kare-kare is the pork hock peanut-sauce bowl they meant. Whitten Oval match days make Barkly louder. Arrive earlier than your hunger if the Bulldogs are home.

The name is the brief. Busog, in Tagalog, is the feeling of being full and content after a meal. Paul at The City Lane wrote that you will be, because the servings are built that way. You did not come here for a tasting menu. You came to sit down on 3012 Barkly and leave actually full.

What should you order at Busog?

You should order a sizzle if that is why you walked, then a share bowl that fills the table, then something cold and sweet if the name of the shop was also dessert.

Papa's crispy pork sisig is the plate the Uber Eats card still names, small or large, chopped pork on a hot pan. City Lane called it sizzling crispy pork sisig. Same job. Diners keep mentioning a house aioli twist on that crunch. Seafood sisig sits next to it on the delivery menu if you wanted the other protein. Ask what is actually on the sizzle tonight. A 2025 photograph is not a standing order.

Then the pork hock kare-kare, which is the dish Paul picked: a fried hock, crackling, meat that falls, vegetables in a peanut curry, shrimp paste on the side so you salt it yourself, garlic rice with slow-cooked cloves in the grains. PinoyPages files the same idea as crispy pata kare-kare. EatClub still prints a peanut-sauce hock and a peanut-sauce belly as the kare-kare line. That is one peanut bowl with a bone in it, not a market tray. Palabok if noodles were the plot: vermicelli, thick seafood sauce, steamed prawns, crumbed fried fish, tofu, pork mince, pork crackling, a share bowl. Start with the overload lumpia platter if the table wanted a spread: chips, pork-and-prawn rolls, beef mince and cheese, taro-leaf rolls, banana ketchup, coconut sauce. Sticky marinated skewers sit on that same City Lane gallery. Recurring notes split on the sticks. Order them if you wanted grill. Do not make them the whole night.

Sinigang if you wanted sour tamarind soup, pork or veg. Silog if someone needed an all-day rice plate. Lechon kawali if crackling with mang tomas was the point. Knockout knuckles if a hock with chips was louder than the peanut bowl. Halo-halo to finish: shaved ice, evaporated milk, vanilla ice-cream, ube jam, palm seeds, nata de coco, jelly, macapuno, leche flan. Lechon flan, ube bico, and turon sit next to it. Filipino beer and house cocktails if the table was staying. Do not expect Irving food-court prices. Call 0432 175 128 if the group is bigger than the room looks. If the market was open and you wanted a tray, Lutong Pinoy is inside the hall. If Nicholson was closer to the plaza, Mami Ko is the other Filipino pin.

Hours, payment and queues at Busog

Quoted hours from Instagram, the house clock City Lane itself links: Monday 5pm to 9pm, Tuesday to Friday 12pm to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am to 9pm. The City Lane visit block still omits Tuesday. Call 0432 175 128 if tonight is Tuesday. Last checked 2026-09-20.

Walk-in for two. Cards are normal on Barkly. Cash still works. Book with a call if you are more than a two-top. Whitten Oval match days eat the street. Uber Eats delivery has skipped Monday and closed the app at 8:30pm on the days it does run. Delivery is not dine-in.

Thai Angels next door is closed Monday and Tuesday. A Tuesday walk that hoped for Thai and trusted a City Lane widget that skipped this kitchen is how you end up at a bottle shop. Check two doors.

How do you get to Busog in West Footscray?

You get to Busog by getting off at West Footscray station and walking Barkly toward Footscray until Shop 1/553. Numbers fall as you walk: Aangan at 559 is tandoor just before it, Thai Angels at 549 is the next door along. Do not start at Footscray station unless you wanted a long Barkly walk past the market you were not looking for.

Street parking on Barkly is short. Match days eat it. Irving deck is the wrong car park for this pin. After dark, stay on lit Barkly back to the station. This is not a Nicholson Mall cut. This is not Paisley.

If a friend said meet at the Filipino place in Footscray, ask which door. 553 Barkly is this room. The market stall is Irving. 76 Nicholson is Mami Ko.
