What people get wrong

549 Barkly, 3012. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Directories still print a 5:30pm seven-day clock. Juk Jut is the Droop Street Thai in 3011. We last walked this on 2026-09-20. Hours move with the week. Checking the shopfront keeps the night easy.

What is Thai Angels Restaurant known for?

Thai Angels is known as West Footscray's family Thai room at 549 Barkly: pad Thai, tom yum, green curry, a 2004 sit-down this strip uses when it wants a clay pot after the market has already locked.

You get off at West Footscray, not Footscray, and you walk Barkly until the numbers hit 549. Delhicuts is the neighbour haircut. Busog at Shop 1/553 is Filipino, next door along. Aangan at 559 is tandoor. This fascia is Thai. The room is small. The job is rice, a soup that smells of galangal, and leaving with peanut on your fingers. Facebook still prints family owned since 2004. Whitten Oval dumps a crowd on this road when the Bulldogs are home. A quiet Wednesday is a different sitting from a home-game Saturday.

The house gallery is still a table of crispy pork with rice, tom yum in a clay pot, chicken satay, golden parcels, mango sticky rice. That photograph is the identity they want you to walk toward. It is not Droop Street's private-room fusion pitch and it is not a food-court stall inside the plaza. Mairead at Fill Up On Bread, September 2006, already called it a tiny Barkly room and told you to ask for Thai hot. Temasek sat Friday night in May 2008: prawn tom yum with extra bird's eye, yellow fish curry, pad Thai, a minced pork salad, a Carlsberg. Star Weekly, 5 February 2013, still spelled the headline Thai Angles and still ate pork spring rolls and a green beef curry in a ceramic bowl. The flavours, they said, were tempered for a Western palate unless you asked. You still have to ask.

Official phone (03) 9689 9669. Official site thaiangelsrestaurant.com. Email thaiangelsrestaurant@hotmail.com. Bookings are a phone call, not a ticketed tasting. The August 2026 house post put pickup and delivery on that same site, Wednesday to Sunday, about a ten kilometre radius. Footscray, Seddon, Yarraville, those names are drop zones. They are not this dining room. This directory sends you to 549 Barkly.

What should you order at Thai Angels Restaurant?

You should order a start that hits the table first, a soup or a curry that actually smells of the paste, then noodles if that is the search you typed, and you should say how hot.

Sit. Roti chanai at $5 on the take-away board, warm, with the house peanut sauce. Chicken satay, six skewers, $8.90, the peanut again. Miniature pork spring rolls, eight for $8.90, sweet chili, the same price Star Weekly paid in 2013. Fish cakes, five, $12. Crispy chicken ribs if you wanted the line the house wrote for itself: you have just got to try this one yourself. Star Weekly's golden bags, five fried parcels of prawn, noodle and herb, are not on the 2026 take-away board. Ask if they still come out. Do not invent them onto the plate.

Then the clay pot. Tom yum is the soup the house calls the most popular: lemon juice, lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves, mushroom, chili. Vegetarian $8.90, chicken or prawns $10.90, mixed seafood $13.90. Tom khar if coconut was the point, same prices. Gang dang, red curry, coconut milk, bamboo, beans, capsicum, pumpkin, eggplant, basil, lime leaf. Gang keaw waan, green, the same vegetables, the house note that it runs hotter than the red because of the green chili in the paste. Chicken or beef $16.90, prawns or fish $18.90, vegetarian $14.90. Uber currently prints those two curries at $21. Delivery is a bag. Pad Thai if that is the search: rice noodles, garlic, bean shoots, crushed peanut. Pad see ew if the noodle was broad. Graprow if basil and fresh chili were the plot. Thai Angels BBQ chicken is the house-named grill: breast, herbs, chili dipping sauce. Som tum $18.90 if green papaya, dried shrimp, salted crab and a boiled egg was the salad. Say spice. The 2013 card still listed mild, medium, Western hot, Thai hot. Temasek asked for hot and got extra raw bird's eye in the tom yum. Mild is how visitors eat a different dinner from the one they described to friends.

If you wanted Droop Street's booking-only weekday lunch, that is Juk Jut. This room is an evening sitting. Sunday starts at 6pm on the visit page. Do not arrive at 5pm on a Sunday and perform surprise. The house gallery still photographs mango sticky rice. The take-away board stops at rice. Ask if dessert is running.

Hours, payment and queues at Thai Angels Restaurant

Quoted hours from the house visit block: Wednesday and Thursday 5pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 5pm to 9:30pm, Sunday 6pm to 9pm, Monday and Tuesday closed. Call (03) 9689 9669. Last checked 2026-09-20.

Walk-in for two. Book with the landline if the group is larger than the room looks. Cards are normal. Take-away is a house product on the /thaiangels page. Match days on Barkly change the wait. Closed Monday and Tuesday is not a maps glitch. Facebook, 21 August 2026, put online pickup and delivery on the house site Wednesday to Sunday during those hours, about ten kilometres. A Seddon bag is not a second dining room. Fill Up On Bread still remembered a coffee shop by day. Do not arrive for a latte.

Sluurpy and Menuweb still print from 5:30pm, seven days, including Monday. Uber Eats delivery has shown 5pm to 8:30pm on nights the dining room is closed. Delivery is not dine-in. If you are pairing this with Busog, Busog's Monday clock is its own fight. Both glasses can be dark. Check two doors.

How do you get to Thai Angels Restaurant in West Footscray?

You get to Thai Angels by getting off at West Footscray station and walking Barkly toward Footscray until 549. Do not start at Footscray station unless you wanted a long Barkly walk past the 3011 Thai room you were not looking for.

Street parking on Barkly is short. Match days eat it. The Irving market deck is the wrong car park for this pin. Whitten Oval, Dosa Hut and Delhicuts share this run. Ultra Tune is Geelong Road service, not a kitchen.

After a late train, stay on lit Barkly. West Footscray residential streets go quiet. This is 3012. Treat it like a suburb, not a footnote of the market. If a friend said meet at the Thai place in Footscray, ask which door. 549 Barkly is this room. 4 Droop is Juk Jut.
