What is Hail Lilith known for?
Hail Lilith is known as the Maddern Square vegan den: bourbon, plant plates, a small brick room under red light, a door you text before you treat it as a walk-in.
You walk Leeds from the station toward the market and miss it if you keep looking at shopfronts. Maddern Square sits off the street. 40A is the corner den, not the gelato queue at 50 and not a sushi shop. Inside it is dark on purpose. Broadsheet, updated 22 October 2023, called the styling 90s alternative and goth, one wall a decoupage of occult images, burlesque when they bill it. Bek Cornish and Tania Murdocco built that room. Love Your West printed the origin: Adelaide hospo, a planned Calabrian kitchen, then lockdown Instagram @haillilithvegan, then a for-lease sign in the square. June 2022 they fitted the bar. Leeds after dark is not the lit spine home. You came for plant plates and whiskey in a den that still wants you to find 40A, spell Maddern, and leave the cone shop for later. If you wanted a burger cabinet and arcade, 8bit is 8 Droop. Different street. Different job.
What should you order at Hail Lilith?
You should order a bourbon pour if that is why you walked, then a plate from the vegan sample while the kitchen window is still open.
The namesake Hail Lilith is bourbon, vanilla vodka, black cherry and pomegranate. Attaro drank that one against a burlesque night and liked it slow. Broadsheet named 24 bottles behind the bar in 2023 and a lighter Hot Goth Summer: tequila, grapefruit, sweet lime, a Paloma cousin. Boards move. Ask what is actually poured. City Lane later named a Vamp Blood Bloody Mary. Treat that as press, not tonight.
Food is vegan on the house sample, 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Focaccia with bourbon butter if you wanted bread first. Lilith Harvest Plate if the table wanted pate, deli cuts, cheese, pickles and breads on one board. Cheeseburger v2 or the Lilith Burger if you wanted the cheap-and-cheerful end Broadsheet already named. Chick'n or Hellfire if spice was the job. Baked gnocchi in 'nduja cream if you wanted the plate Love Your West said used Vincent Vegetarian Food paste. Maple sambal eggplant, curried potatoes, Caesar, chocolate mousse cake. Those are sample prices. Ask tonight. Older cards still name watermelon tartare and king-brown mushroom ceviche. Those may have rotated off. Kitchen dies at 8:30 on that card. The bar can run later. Saturday the glass opens at 12. That is not a lunch omakase. It is a bar that will feed you if you sit in the window.
Stay long enough to taste the pour on its own terms. Eat it here. A sealed burger walking to Hopkins is how a vegan bun becomes homework. If you wanted gelato, Kariton is 50 Leeds.
