What is 8bit known for?
8bit is known for burgers named after games and cabinets in the corners: pixel mosaic, primary colours, a machine McCallum told Broadsheet held something like 500 games.
You walk from Footscray station toward the plaza, then Droop. 8 is the blade that says 8bit. Kristoffer Paulsen shot the corner: white blade, leftover Vietnamese lettering, a burger pictogram, pixel tiling wrapping the brick. Inside it is a grill, not a LAN cafe. You sit because a burger this messy does not travel, and because a Saturday queue on Droop still means the cabinets are the room after the bun. The napkin is part of the plate. McCallum told Broadsheet someone said it would be awesome to have games in the place, and the idea stuck. A decade later the Broadsheet directory, updated 14 June 2020, is still live. You should order the 8bit with cheese if that is why you walked, then decide whether the sitting still wants heat or a double stack.

Chicken if that was the job: Golden Axe, crispy fried chicken, cheese, sriracha mayo, slaw, $15. Gauntlet piles bacon and two cheeses on the same fry. Zelda is the chickpea, corn and quinoa patty with beetroot relish, grilled haloumi and avocado. Vbit is the plant patty in the classic build. Beer-battered fries, potato gems, onion rings. Corner still mentions Nutella or salted caramel shakes. Goomba is on a stale card and is not on the live burger page we indexed. Do not hunt a 2014 special like a standing order.
Eat it here. A stacked takeaway for an hour is how a bun becomes homework. Stay long enough to taste the sauce. Then play if a cabinet is free. The fold of this burger is the napkin. You get to 8bit by walking from Footscray station toward the plaza, then onto Droop, to 8, the burger blade, an arcade grill, not a cocktail den and not a noodle room.
Read the pictogram. 8bit. You are on Droop. Albert Street is the plaza park if you drove. Irving is the market deck. You do not need a reservation. You need to arrive before the glass looks theoretical. Stay for the bun at the corner. The blade is the lock. You came for this grill.
At night Droop is a short run back to the plaza. Last trains matter more than a directory 11pm. Pixel on the brick is how you know you came to the right corner.
