What people get wrong

Closed Sunday and Monday. Wednesday is open to 4pm. Park Irving. Plaza is Albert. Little Saigon Market burned in 2016. Do not mash the three. We last walked this on 2026-09-21. Hours move with the week. Checking the shopfront keeps the night easy.

What is Footscray Market known for?

Footscray Market is known as the Irving produce hall: more than 75 traders, cheap herbs, offal, fish on ice, fruit plaza Coles will not match, and a food-court bowl if you came hungry and stayed standing.

You walk out of Footscray station onto Irving and the hall is already opposite you, not on Hopkins and not inside the Albert plaza. House copy still sells multicultural produce and a Postcards 2023 walk with Shane Delia grabbing a Vietnamese-style creme brulee coffee. That is colour. The job is still coriander before 9am and a bag that leaks in the boot. English, Vietnamese and more than one other language work at the glass. Point if you need to.

This is not Queen Vic. This is not South Melbourne. This is not Little Saigon. Xuan Anh and Huu Huu Thanh are stalls inside this building. They follow market days. Do not hunt them on a Sunday. Nhu Ngoc is stall 223, not a Hopkins street pin. Commercial spaces from 20 to 50 square metres still get advertised on the house site. That is a lease, not your herb errand.

You came because a kitchen needed herbs the supermarket bunches will not smell like, or because a friend said the fish, and because a visitor who parked Albert with a market letter is how a Saturday dies. Two decks. Two jobs. Stay on Irving. The ice and the sawtooth coriander are the tell. A 4:15pm Wednesday arrival is already too late. The hall will take cash and a card if the stall takes a card. It will not open Sunday. It will not sell you a plaza roast chicken at 9pm.

What should you buy at Footscray Market?

You should buy herbs, fruit, fish, meat, tofu, and a food-court plate if you wanted to eat before the crush, plus cash because smaller stalls still prefer it.

Arrive before 9am if you wanted the pick of seafood and a stool that is not already a queue. Huu Huu Thanh sells out. Xuan Anh is closed Sunday and Monday with the hall. If you needed injera, Mesnoy is 77 Irving, a different door on the same street. If you needed berbere, Bright Merkato is Paisley. If you needed a Sunday milk, Coles at the plaza. If you needed Green Valley, Nicholson, and confirm that glass.

Stay long enough to match 18 Irving to the hall. Bags of ice and a leaky bag in a boot are the unglamorous facts. Cards exist. Do not arrive card-only and shocked. Do not treat a commercial-space ad as a stall number.

Bring the question. A stall clock is not always the hall clock. Wednesday dies at 4pm. Thursday to Saturday run to 5pm. Do not invent a stall that trades Monday because a maps widget liked the pin.

Hours and which door at Footscray Market

Tuesday and Wednesday 7am to 4pm. Thursday to Saturday 7am to 5pm. Closed Sunday and Monday. Phone (03) 9687 1205. Last checked 2026-09-21.

House site, fetched 2026-09-21, still prints that clock plus Good Friday closed, Easter Saturday open, Easter Sunday and Monday closed, and ANZAC Day 2026 open 1pm to 5pm. Wednesday is open. Closed Wednesday is a leftover trap from people who mashed this hall with another market. A 4:15pm Wednesday arrival is how you write a review of a shutter.

Park Irving. House park-and-shop: 1 hour $1, 2 hours $2, 3 hours $4, 4 hours $6, all day $10. Monthly passes sit on the house FAQ. The same FAQ printed the car park Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Saturday 7am to 9pm, Sunday closed, and skipped Thursday on the 2026 fetch. Confirm the boom. Do not leave a car for Moon Dog and call it market parking.

Sunday this hall is locked. Plaza Coles is the Sunday grocery. Little Saigon Market will not save you. It burned. Green Valley may still be a Nicholson grocer. Confirm that glass, not a 2012 Time Out clock.

How do you get to Footscray Market?

Walk out of Footscray station onto Irving. The hall is opposite the station on the house page, not on Hopkins and not inside Albert Street plaza.

House copy still names tram 82 and buses 402, 404, 406, 223 and 216. The Irving deck is more than 800 bays. Enter from Irving. Albert is the plaza. Utility Lane off Byron is the old Little Saigon car park. That pin is not this hall.

After you shop, walk Barkly or Hopkins if you are heading on, not the mall as a commute with ice. Rideshare on Irving or Hopkins, not a service lane under the deck.

If you already parked Albert for Coles, this is a walk, not a second boom. Do not drag a plaza trolley across to Irving and call it one centre.

What do people mix up about Footscray Market?

They park Albert, or they treat Little Saigon as a live fallback, or they arrive Wednesday at 4:15pm because someone said the market was closed that day.
