What is Mami Ko known for?
Mami Ko is known for a sit-down Filipino kitchen on Nicholson: pork on a sizzle, sour milkfish soup, a tall vinyl of plates in the door, tables that face the street. You come off the station walk and the banner is already arguing. MAMI KO. FILIPINO-ASIAN. A collage of pata and pancit. OPEN NOW in gold. That is the room this suburb uses when it wants a Filipino table without crossing to West Footscray or waiting for the market hall to unlock.
House copy on mamiko.com.au translates the name as my noodle soup, a term of endearment, not a single-bowl menu. The Philippine Times, 26 June 2024, had Mami Ko sponsoring the first Philippine Grand Fiesta at Queen Victoria Market and selling pares and mami, the beef stew and noodle soup that make the name less of a metaphor. This listing is 76 Nicholson. The fiesta stall is not your dinner.
Walk in. White square tables, black pendant lights, acoustic tiles, a glass wall onto Nicholson, a few two-tops already eating rice. Filipino and English both work when the room is trading. West Melbourne and Beyond walked the same door, liked the visibility, and left unconvinced: food fine, portions tight, a pork-heavy menu they thought would play better as a crowd. They scored it 3.5 and said they would not rush back. That is one west blog. Delivery cards keep listing sisig and palabok. You sit down and you order like a table that intends to share.
Tan Thanh Loi at 73 is com tam. Green Valley at 9/63-67 is the grocer. Deepak at 2/56 is plaza-side Indian. None of them will fry your pata. After dark, leave Nicholson via Barkly or Hopkins. The mall is the block people skip.
What should you order at Mami Ko?
Order pork sisig if the sizzle plate is on, the chopped pork with chilli and calamansi that every Filipino pin in this suburb is asked for first. Directories still name it with sinigang bangus belly, the sour milkfish soup, crispy pata, and palabok. Those are the dishes the photos keep selling. Ask what the kitchen is actually doing tonight. A 2024 Facebook plate is not a standing order.
Uber Eats, when the store is live, still builds the appetite in platters. Putok Batok stacks pork barbecue, lechon kawali, pork sisig, inihaw na liempo, lumpiang shanghai and two Cokes. Pork Boodle is the four-to-five-person fight: the same grilled and fried pork, crispy pata, mixed pancit, egg fried rice, steamed rice, salted egg, talong, okra, green bean. Pancit palabok is listed as rice noodles with minced pork, tofu, shrimp and smoked fish flakes, fried pork on top. Those prices move. The plot does not: you came for pork and noodles, or you came for the sour soup, and you should say which before the table fills with both.
House About still pushes pinakbet if you wanted vegetables in bagoong, lomi if the name of the shop was also the order, turon with ice cream if banana and jackfruit in a fried wrap was dessert. Late 2024 Facebook posts from 0414 748 095 pushed Bicol Express, beef bulalo, ginataang langka, pork adobo from $28, and a crispy pork kare-kare tray. Dynamite prawns and bangus embutido show up on the MelbourneMeal card. Ask. Do not hunt a Christmas tray in September.
West Melbourne and Beyond thought the plates they tried were ungenerous for the price. Directory blurbs talk about generous servings. That split is the review war. Sit down with enough people to empty a sizzle and a soup. If the food is not what you wanted, Lutong Pinoy is the market tray on a trading day and Busog is the Barkly table.
Hours, payment and queues at Mami Ko
Quoted hours are daily about 11am to 9pm on Facebook-fed directories, walk-in, cards and cash, with no booking widget you should trust. MelbourneMeal and Restaurants10 print that 11am-9pm table including Tuesday. Uber Eats skips Tuesday and closes the app at 7:15pm on the days it does run, 11:15am start. If you are pairing this with Lutong Pinoy, the market is locked Sunday and Monday. If you wanted a Sunday Filipino dinner and 76 is dark, Busog in 3012 is the sitting that actually publishes Sunday hours.
How do you get to Mami Ko in Footscray?
Walk out of Footscray station toward Nicholson and keep going until 76, past the grocer stretch, before the plaza Indian. Little Saigon fruit, Ethiopian rooms and remittance desks share this strip. It is not Hopkins and it is not Paisley. You are looking for the tall vinyl in the door, not a Hopkins banh mi fascia and not a market stall number.
Albert Street if you drove for the plaza. Irving is the market. Nicholson kerbside is timed and mean at lunch. You do not need a car. The banner is visible from the footpath. If you cannot see Lasang Hinahanap-hanap, you are on the wrong number.
After dark, leave via Barkly or Hopkins. Nicholson Mall is not the night shortcut. If the lights are off, do not wander the block hoping the kitchen moved two doors along. Check Lutong Pinoy on a market day or Busog in 3012.
What do people mix up about Mami Ko?
They call the room Vietnamese because Nicholson is, or they walk the market food court and treat Lutong Pinoy as this table.
