What people get wrong

Cite 11am-10pm. Another house line says 10am. 95 Irving, market side, 3011. Not Cafe Lalibela at 91 and not Dosa Hut at 604 Barkly 3012. We last walked this on 2026-09-20. Hours move with the week. Checking the shopfront keeps the night easy.

What is Madhumoti Restaurant known for?

Madhumoti is known as Irving's Bangladeshi sitting that also runs a full Indian tandoor list: goat tehari, mustard hilsa, kala bhuna, a few doors from Lalibela and not an injera room.

You walk Irving from Footscray station on the market side, not Hopkins. Trolleys if the hall is open. Injera steam from 91 if Lalibela is running. Then 95, Albert corner if you kept the kerb. The fascia says Bangladeshi and Indian. The smell from next door is berbere. That is a different kitchen. You came for mustard oil and a rice plate, not a shared tray of wot.

The about block claims 20 years of experience. That is their number. Tim Blight already had this Irving door in December 2013, same phone, daily 11 to 10, a Kolkata meat roll in paratha, begun bhorta, fish bhuna that did not taste like mainland Indian gravy. Time Out and Good Food have not given the room a card. The suburb uses it anyway: a Bangladeshi table between market hours and the Ethiopian cluster, or instead of both. Pasa Ya at 56 is Newari, closed Monday. Name both. Do not eat choila and then pretend this was the same kitchen.

AGFG lists fully licensed, functions, halal options, takeaway, delivery, child friendly. The house adds dine-in, online order, party catering. Phone (03) 9942 5702. Email info@madhumotirestaurant.com.au. A booking form sits on the same page if the table is more than two. You can sit. You should sit. Delivery is a bag. The rice plate is the point of walking in.

What should you order at Madhumoti Restaurant?

You should order goat tehari if you came for the rice this kitchen exists to cook, then mustard hilsa if you knew that fish, then bread that is not naan.

Goat tehari on the house menu is $18.50: basmati short grain cooked with goat and the house spices, egg and potatoes on the plate. Uber diners keep ranking it with eggplant bhorta and dal gosh. Morog polao is the chicken twin at the same price, the most-liked line on that delivery card. Kacchi biryani if the table wanted celebration rice, goat, egg, potatoes, salad. Bhuna khichuri with meat at $19.99 if you wanted lentils cooked into the grain instead of a separate dal. Plain rice is $4 if you were going to drown it in gravy. Borhani at $4 is the yogurt drink that belongs with the rice, not a Coke afterthought.

Then the dark pots. Kala bhuna goat or beef at $19.50, slow cooked until the sauce reduces to a dark colour. That is the dark slow cook, not a korma with extra minutes. Rezala if you wanted yogurt, ginger, garlic and onion cooked twice into a sour sauce. Bhuri bhuna is lamb tripe. Ask before you point. Shutki bhorta at $14.50 is dried fish mashed with hot chilli, onion, mustard oil and coriander, the smash that tells you this is not a tandoor-first room. Aloo, eggplant, egg, dal and tomato bhortas sit under $10. Put two on the table. UrbanDuniya already called begun bhorta the pad for rice, and fish bhuna the star. The board still sells both jobs.

Shorshe ilish, printed Shorisha Illsha and Ilsha Shorisa at $29.50, is hilsa in mustard. Illisha fry is the other $29.50 fish line. Ask which fish is in the pan. Ask mustard or fry. Do not point at Sagg fish because the name was pretty. Mughlai paratha at $12 is stuffed, crispy, egg, chutney or salad. Plain paratha is $4 if you only needed bread. Naan exists because someone at the table refused to leave the Indian list. Butter chicken, tandoori, garlic naan: that half is real, it is just not why this door is on Irving. Say spice level. Halal is listed on AGFG, not a rumour. Do not order injera. Lalibela is 91. Do not order dosa as the house identity. Dosa Hut is 3012.

Hours, payment and queues at Madhumoti Restaurant

House about lists daily 11am to 10pm. AGFG matches every day 11 to 10. Another house tile says 10am to 10pm. Uber Eats prints 11am to 9:30pm on the Monday card. We cite 11 to 10 for the door. Call (03) 9942 5702. Official site: https://madhumotirestaurant.com.au/.

Walk-in. Cards. The table form on the house page is how you warn them, not how you get a ticketed sitting. Licensed on AGFG, so a drink with the tehari is a house offer, not a BYO hope. Irving fills on market days. Sunday and Monday the hall across Irving is locked and this kitchen is still listed open. That pairing is the one that works. If you were pairing with Pasa Ya, Pasa Ya is closed Monday. One locked Nepali door does not kill the bhuna.

Catering is a house offer for birthdays and functions. That is not a walk-in fact. Public holidays will shuffle a seven-day kitchen whether a widget says so or not. If you wanted dosa at 10am, that is a different postcode, not a reason to stand in front of this glass at opening-time rumour.

How do you get to Madhumoti Restaurant in Footscray?

You get to Madhumoti by walking Irving from Footscray station to 95, market side, Albert corner, a few doors past Lalibela at 91, not a shop inside the hall and not a banh mi queue on Hopkins.

Look for the Bangladeshi and Indian fascia, not an injera stack and not Friend's Kitchen at 56. The market is across the road. Pasa Ya is further back along Irving if the night was going to be choila first. Name both. Do not hunt Bangladeshi food only on Hopkins because Hopkins is the postcard, and do not hunt it inside the hall because the hall is produce.

Irving deck if you already parked for the market. Street parking is the other fact. Do not test a 2P through tehari and mustard fish you actually sat for. After dark stay on Irving toward Barkly or Hopkins. Paisley is not the night cut. West Footscray station is the wrong train if you wanted 95 Irving. That stop is for Dosa Hut at 604 Barkly 3012. Same city, different door. If a friend said Indian Footscray, ask which postcode before you leave the platform.

What do people mix up about Madhumoti Restaurant?

They mash it with Lalibela because 91 and 95 share Irving air and the street already smells like berbere.
