D&K Live Seafood is known as the Leeds tank shop: purpose-built tanks, ice on the slab, oysters opened at the glass, a bag that weeps in the boot, and a Sunday clock the Irving hall does not have.
You walk Leeds from Footscray station and 28A is across from Elka and Pho Tam at 7-9. Look for the D&K disc on a dark fascia, blue wall, tanks behind glass. You came because Sunday Irving is a shutter and a coral trout still needed a tank, or because a friend said the oysters at the glass, and because a visitor who queued at Elka with a fishmonger letter is how a Saturday dies. Two doors. Two jobs. Stay on 28A. The tanks behind glass are the tell. A 6:15pm arrival is already too late. The shop will take a leaking bag. It will not book you a chirashi. It will not open the Irving hall.
What should you buy at D&K Live Seafood?
You should buy oysters if you wanted them opened now, a whole fish if you cook, dry-aged fish if the family line is uncut, and ice in the bag.
Good Food still says a large variety, shucked to order, slurped there. House Christmas copy names oysters, prawns, crabs. Fyple's stale card adds live lobster and mud crab. Ask what is in the tank. Wholesale is a real part of the house pitch. This page is the retail door. Muli at 184A Rathdowne Street, Carlton, is the later restaurant. Muli Express was the Little Bourke oyster bar.
