Location
What people get wrong
AYC still lists groceries, remittance, cargo and tickets at 109-111. The house cart is juices and perfume. SYC employment is Level 1 in the same terrace, different phone. No shop clock on the house site. We last walked this on 2026-09-20. Hours move with the week. Checking the shopfront keeps the night easy.
What is WOW General and Trading known for?
WOW General and Trading is known as the Nicholson terrace African households use when one door has to do more than a supermarket aisle: groceries if the floor is still a grocer, a transfer or a ticket if that desk is staffed, a bottle from the house cart if perfume is what is actually for sale.
You walk in from Nicholson Street Mall, the terrace over the railway, between Slice Shop at 101A and Taste of Ethiopia at 121. The room is not a restaurant. Council still writes these main streets as African clothing, perfume, hair shops and packed grocers. You came because someone said this is where you send money home and pick up a bag plaza Coles will not have. Stand still. Look at the floor before you join a queue.
African Youth Collective names Alex as general manager and prints meatexportgo@outlook.com. That is a contact, not a booking. The partner page also pitches youth training in a live shop. You are not here for a course unless AYC sent you. You are here because a counter will sell you the dry goods you cook with and, if the window is open, take a transfer without a high-street bank.
The house site brands as WOWW Grocery: juices, fragrance, sip and spritz. The named crew on that page reads like a template. Do not treat it as staff. Live SKUs are Gulf designer-inspired bottles: Asad, Badee Al Oud, Qaed Al Fursan, Afnan 9 PM, His Confession, Her Confession. Prices print in US dollars. That is a cart, not a photo of 109-111. Dual identity is the gotcha, not the essay. Look at the room you walked into.
What should you buy at WOW General and Trading?
You should buy groceries and African products if the AYC description still matches the shelves, use remittance or cargo if that desk is open, or take a juice and a perfume if the house cart is the honest trade tonight.
You came for the errand, not the brand story. If the shelves are still rice, oil, spices, hair grease, phone cards, tins you recognise from home, you are in the grocer. Point if you need to. Cash still helps on this strip. Cards may work. Ask before you assume tap-and-go. There is no public review trail worth quoting. House testimonials repeat one stock name. Ignore them. Watch what people are carrying out the door.
If the counter has a transfer form, you are in the remittance job. Bring photo ID. This is not a bank. Compare the corridor and the rate with Dahabshiil at 14A/144 and Kaah Express in shop 22 of that block if both are open. The rate is the point. Tickets and cargo sit on the same AYC list. Ask which window. A wholesale meat-export email is not a butcher counter. Do not send a Saturday roast here because the partner page said meat export.
Berbere in bulk is Bright Merkato at 43 Paisley. Injera packets are Mesnoy on Irving. Dinner is Taste of Ethiopia at 121, closed Monday. This door does not cook. Perfume, if the bottles are on the shelf, will be the Lattafa-family lines the cart already names. Do not treat a US web price as the till. Yessupport Care is an NDIS provider with a North Melbourne head office, not a walk-in clinic behind the rice. Call that provider separately.
Hours and which door at WOW General and Trading?
Quoted shop hours do not exist on the house site or on the AYC partner page, so call (03) 7075 9888 or mobile 0488 130 000 and believe the person who answers, then the glass. Last checked 2026-09-20. Ground floor is this shop. Level 1 is SYC, not this till.
SYC Ltd sits on Level 1 of the same 109-111: Inclusive Employment Australia, JobAccess, phone (03) 9037 5050. Waze lists Monday to Friday 9am-5pm for that office. Do not copy it onto the grocer. Maps like a pin, and the pin at this number is often SYC, not WOW. Read the fascia before you climb the stairs with a grocery list.
Sunday is unknown for this door. Coles at the plaza is the Sunday grocery you can cite. The Irving hall is locked. Taste of Ethiopia next door is listed Tuesday to Sunday from 1pm on directory cards, closed Monday. That is not this shutter. Public holidays shuffle. The fascia still prints a phone.
Park Nicholson kerb if you are only doing this errand. Irving is the market. Albert is the plaza. Do not leave a car for a late transfer and call it grocery parking. Remittance is a daylight job. After hours this counter is closed. This is not a night till and not a bank.
How do you get to WOW General and Trading?
Walk out of Footscray station onto Nicholson and keep north along the mall over the railway until you hit 109-111, the terrace before Taste of Ethiopia at 121, not 144 and not the 63-67 Little Saigon block.
You pass the leftover Little Saigon grocer at 63-67, Slice Shop at 101A, then this terrace, then 121 if you wanted injera after the errand. That room is closed Monday. Dahabshiil is further along at 14A/144. If you already parked for 144, this is a walk back down the same street, a different number, a different job.
You do not need a car. After dark, leave via Barkly or Hopkins. Nicholson Mall underpasses are the blocks people skip when they have a choice. The employment office upstairs keeps weekday office hours. The shop downstairs is a different clock you still have to ask for.
A 15 July 2026 fire on this strip took a fashion boutique in the precinct Star Weekly called Little Africa, then a kebab shop next door. Directories still pin Footscray Kebab House at 93 Nicholson. That is not automatically this door. Confirm a live shop, then do the errand. Do not send a grocery trip to West Melbourne because a search said Little Africa. This listing is 109-111 Nicholson, Footscray 3011.
